Hi all
Suddenly my 7000 produces a message every-time I want to transfer to external storage "File move failed". The HDD is mainly empty so it is not full. It was working then suddenly it started this. Anyone got any ideas what could be happening

I would think most likely the file system on the external hard drive is in need of a repair. I am assuming you can see the external drive and the files currently on it. If you are running the latest firmware, when you have some spare time (i.e. you don't need the toppy to be doing anything for 20-30 minutes) go the the installation menu and select the repair external drive function. For me this takes around 20 minutes. Once done, I would go to standby and back, and then try again.

For some externals, or if things are really bad, this may not work - the toppy will tell you if it failed (if it worked it just goes back to the menu). If it fails, you can either reformat the external (loosing everything on it) or use the linux fsck process described on the sticky thread on the forum about using an external hard drive. It looks complicated, but is not as bad as it looks if you follow the instructions provided.

If this fixes it, the trick is to do the repair after any time that a file copy fails to keep your file system in good shape.
